The acquisition of Italian citizenship upon reaching the age of eighteen

Article 4, paragraph 2 of Law 91/92 stipulates that the children of foreign nationals automatically acquire Italian citizenship when:

  • They have legally resided in Italy without interruption from birth until the age of 18.
  • They declare their intention to acquire Italian citizenship before turning 19.
