In the Italian context of human rights compression, SCUDI is a project aimed at strengthening the knowledge, skills, and capacities of lawyers, trainees, activists, and civil society organization workers to more effectively engage in strategic litigation practices in favor of migrants and individuals with a migratory background. The goal is to improve and make the protection of their rights effective, including through the application of European Union law, such as the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
A public resource, available in both IT and EN, that collects and organizes practical guides, legislative documents, case law, judgments and decisions, case studies, and relevant tools related to the protection of the rights of migrants and individuals with a migratory background, across the thematic areas of the SCUDI project. The database aims to support the development of knowledge and skills for lawyers, trainees, activists, and civil society organization workers engaged in the protection and defense of human rights, for a broader application of strategic litigation.
The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union protects the fundamental rights enjoyed by individuals in the European Union and sets out the civil, political, economic, and social rights of European citizens and of all individuals living in the territory of the Union. The Charter reaffirms the established rights based on the constitutional traditions and common international obligations of the Member States, which include the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the Social Charters adopted by the Union and the Council of Europe, and the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights. Thanks to the visibility and clarity that the Charter gives to fundamental rights, it helps create legal certainty within the Union, founded on common values: human dignity, freedom, equality, solidarity, citizenship, justice.
